Juan Carlos Lopez-Sosa, Reentry of Removed Alien, Louisiana 2025

New Orleans, Louisiana – Juan Carlos Lopez-Sosa, a 31-year-old native of Guatemala, is facing serious charges for reentry of removed alien.

Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced on September 18, 2025, that Lopez-Sosa was indicted on charges of reentry of removed alien, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

According to court documents, Lopez-Sosa, an illegal alien, was found in St. Tammany Parish on September 11, 2025. He had previously been convicted of violating 8 U.S.C. § 1326, Illegal Re-entry of Removed Alien on April 5, 2018, and sentenced to a term of 2 days.

Lopez-Sosa was removed to Guatemala on April 20, 2018. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of ten years of imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson reiterated that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

Simpson praised the work of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating this matter. Special Assistant United States Attorney Frederick W. Veters Jr. of the General Crimes Unit oversees the prosecution.

Lopez-Sosa's case highlights the ongoing struggle against illegal immigration and the dangers posed by individuals who reenter the country after being deported.
