Grimy Times Exclusive: Two Leaders Of Violent Drug Cartel Sentenced To Life And 50 Years In Prison

A brutal drug cartel that terrorized communities in New York and Puerto Rico has been dealt a devastating blow with the sentencing of its two leaders, Julio Marquez Alejandro, a/k/a 'Chino,' and Luis Blondet. Marquez Alejandro was sentenced to life in prison, while Blondet received a 50-year prison term.

According to the evidence presented in court, Marquez Alejandro and Blondet were key figures in 'La Organizacion de Narcotraficantes Unidos,' or 'La ONU,' a criminal enterprise responsible for dozens of murders, bribery of corrupt police officers in Puerto Rico, and the distribution of thousands of kilograms of cocaine.

The investigation revealed that Marquez Alejandro personally ordered, authorized, or helped facilitate the murders of at least 15 people to maintain or expand his power and profits. Blondet was also implicated in the murders of seven people, including Crystal Martinez Ramirez, who was shot in the head twice and dumped on a street corner in San Juan, Puerto Rico, after refusing Blondet's sexual advances.

The brutal murders were just one aspect of the cartel's reign of terror, which also included the bribery of corrupt police officers in Puerto Rico and the distribution of cocaine in New York City, including out of a children's daycare center in the Bronx.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams praised the work of law enforcement partners, saying, 'This Office is committed to seeking justice for otherwise forgotten victims, no matter how long it takes. Thanks to outstanding work from our law enforcement partners, Marquez Alejandro and Blondet will rightly spend decades in prison.'
