Fresno Man's Despicable Credit Card Scam Exposed
Justin Deger, a 28-year-old Fresno resident, has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison for a brazen credit card scam that targeted numerous residents in the Fresno area.
According to court records, Deger's crime spree began on December 5, 2018, and continued until March 28, 2019. During this time, he broke into mailboxes at various residences and stole over 2,000 pieces of mail, including checks and 26 credit cards.
The audacious thief subsequently activated some of the stolen credit cards and made unauthorized purchases and cash withdrawals at local retailers and casinos, totaling thousands of dollars.
On [FRESNO, Calif. — U.S. District Judge Dale A. Drozd sentenced Justin Deger today to one year and one day in prison for credit card fraud and possession of stolen mail, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced], Judge Drozd handed down the sentence, which also includes a restitution order for the victims and a forfeiture of the proceeds from Deger's crimes.
The investigation into Deger's nefarious activities was a joint effort between the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Fresno Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Vincente Tennerelli and Joseph Barton prosecuted the case, bringing justice to the victims of Deger's crimes.
