Grimy Times Exclusive: Springfield Center Man Arrested for Child Pornography

Syracuse, NY - In a shocking case, 41-year-old Justin Hobbie of Springfield Center, New York was arrested for receiving and distributing child pornography over the internet.

According to a federal criminal complaint, Hobbie used a peer-to-peer file sharing program to receive and distribute images of child pornography. An initial review of his desktop computer revealed numerous video files depicting child pornography.

The charges in the complaint are merely accusations, and Hobbie is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

If convicted, Hobbie faces at least 5 years and up to 20 years in prison, a term of post-release supervision of at least 5 years and up to life, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Hobbie appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Thérèse Wiley Dancks, who ordered him detained pending a detention hearing scheduled for December 12, 2018.

This case is being investigated by HSI Albany with assistance from the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey J. L. Brown.

This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a program designed to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
