Monroeville Man Sentenced for Illegal Weapons Possession

A Monroeville man has been sentenced for violating federal laws regarding firearms. According to the United States Attorney Richard W. Moore of the Southern District of Alabama, Justin Parker of Monroeville, Alabama was sentenced to serve 71 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release in each case concurrently after pleading guilty to a violation of 18 USC Section 922(g), Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, in two separate cases.

The charges against Parker stem from two incidents. The first incident occurred on September 3, 2017 when the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Parker for shooting a man. Following the arrest, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was asked to assist in investigating a federal case after it was discovered that Parker had been convicted of unlawful distribution of narcotics in 2011 and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Parker was released on bond on the state charges. However, on September 28, 2017, Officers of the Monroeville Police Department executed a narcotics search warrant on a residence, finding Parker present at the home and in possession of another firearm.

Chief United States District Judge Kristi Dubose determined that a sentence at the high end of the federal sentencing guidelines, or 71 months imprisonment, was required due to the need to protect the community and the defendant’s disrespect for the law.

This case was investigated by the Monroeville Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by AUSA Maria E. Murphy.

Parker, a Monroeville resident, was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon under 18 USC Section 922(g) in two separate cases. He was sentenced to 71 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release in each case concurrently.

Parker’s convictions stem from incidents in Monroeville, Alabama on September 3, 2017 and September 28, 2017. The defendant is currently serving a sentence of 71 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release.
