Keith Brinkley, Fentanyl Distribution Conspiracy, New Jersey 2024

NEWARK, N.J. – Keith Brinkley, a 30-year-old resident of Paterson, New Jersey, known on the streets as “K Murder,” admitted today to his role in a deadly fentanyl distribution network. The plea, entered via video conference before U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti, marks a significant step in dismantling a local operation peddling poison in the Garden State.

Brinkley pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute fentanyl, and knowingly and intentionally distributing the lethal opioid. Federal authorities say Brinkley and his associates operated as part of the 230 Boys street gang, a crew primarily active around Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue in Paterson.

The investigation, a multi-agency effort, revealed a sophisticated operation stretching from at least September 2018 through October 1, 2019. Law enforcement built their case through a relentless barrage of tactics: numerous controlled buys, intercepted phone calls and texts, round-the-clock surveillance, and meticulous analysis of phone records. These methods painted a clear picture of Brinkley and his crew flooding the streets with heroin and, more critically, fentanyl.

The feds weren’t messing around. This wasn’t some small-time operation. This was a calculated conspiracy to profit off addiction and misery. The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) spearheaded the investigation, highlighting the severity of the threat posed by this particular crew. OCDETF’s mandate is to take down the biggest players in drug trafficking, weapons dealing, and money laundering – and this case clearly fits the bill.

Each charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years behind bars, along with a hefty $1 million fine. Brinkley is scheduled to be sentenced on December 7, 2020, and can expect a lengthy stay in federal prison if Judge Martinotti accepts the plea agreement. U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito lauded the work of multiple agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the N.J. State Police, the Paterson Police Department, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Francesca Liquori, of the Organized Crime and Gangs Unit, is prosecuting the case. While Brinkley’s admission is a win for law enforcement, the fight against fentanyl continues. The streets of Paterson, and the nation, remain saturated with this deadly drug, and the Grimy Times will be there to report every bust, every overdose, and every attempt to hold these criminals accountable.
