Child Pornography Charges Rock Willard Community

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Willard community, 33-year-old Karl J. Rogers has been indicted on one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Justin E. Herdman announced.

According to the indictment, Rogers knowingly received numerous images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between October and December 2017.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey Ballard Tangeman handling the prosecution.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Rogers is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including his prior criminal record, his role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases will be less than the maximum.
