Published March 19, 2015

A brazen armed robbery at a Detroit pharmacy has led to federal charges for a 19-year-old man.

Kavin Stinson, 19, has been indicted for his role in the August 22, 2014 armed robbery of the Rite Aid store at 1900 East Eight Mile Road in Detroit.

According to court documents, Stinson and two accomplices entered the store at approximately 3:00 p.m. armed with handguns and demanded that employees hand over cash and liquor. One of the accomplices pistol-whipped two employees during the robbery.

The investigation, which involved the FBI's Violent Crime Task Force and the Detroit Police Department, led to the identification of Stinson as the second suspect. A third suspect remains at large.

Stinson is charged with robbery and using a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted, he faces a minimum of seven years in prison with the possibility of 27 years in prison.

U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade and FBI Special Agent in Charge Paul M. Abbate expressed their commitment to rooting out violent offenders and maintaining the safety of Detroit's neighborhoods.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government's burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
