Rochester, N.Y. - In a major blow to the city's narcotics trade, a local meth dealer will be spending the next 12 years behind bars.

Kavon A. Wilson, 32, of Elmira, NY, was convicted of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court records, law enforcement executed a search warrant at an Erie Street residence in Elmira on April 2, 2024. During the search, investigators found a loaded handgun under a couch pillow, as well as approximately 1,559 grams of methamphetamine, 124 grams of cocaine, 154 fentanyl pills, and over $11,500 in cash.

Wilson's girlfriend was present at the residence with three small children, including an infant in her arms. Wilson was taken into custody after he approached the residence.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the sentencing, which was handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. Wilson was sentenced to serve 151 months in prison and was ordered to forfeit two firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola handled the prosecution of the case. The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Violent Crimes Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan DiGirolamo, New York Field Division, the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Kevin Sucher, and the Elmira Police Department, under the direction of Chief Kristen Thorne.

The sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against methamphetamine trafficking in New York.
