A devastating act of violence on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation has led to a harsh sentence for a Box Elder man. Kelcey James Morsette, 31, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after admitting to assaulting a woman, causing serious injuries, on November 14, 2019.

The assault, which occurred at the hands of Morsette, left the victim hospitalized. The crime was highly publicized, and the community has been left reeling from the news.

Morsette pleaded guilty on February 24 to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case, ordering Morsette to serve 21 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
