Kelly L. Turney, Possession of Child Pornography, Wisconsin 2020

Published February 21, 2020

A 23-year-old man from Zoar on the Menominee Indian Reservation, Wisconsin, has been indicted for possession of child pornography.

According to the US Attorney's Office, Matthew D. Krueger, Kelly L. Turney was charged with Possession of Child Pornography in Indian Country, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A.

The indictment was handed down on February 19, 2020, after a federal grand jury reviewed the case.

The charge carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Additionally, Turney faces at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, as well as a mandatory special assessment of $100.

The case was investigated by the Menominee Tribal Police Department, the Wisconsin Department of Justice - Division of Criminal Investigation's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier will prosecute the case.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
