Fentanyl Possession Lands Woman in Hot Water

Kelsey Morgan Ault, 26, has admitted to her role in a methamphetamine and fentanyl distribution operation in West Virginia. The operation was uncovered in Hardy County in January 2020.

Ault, a resident of Maysville, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute at Least Forty Grams of Fentanyl—Aiding and Abetting.

According to the U.S. Attorney, Bill Powell, this charge carries a hefty sentence. Ault is facing at least five and up to 40 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $5,000,000.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner on behalf of the government. The Potomac Highlands Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the crime.

The case was heard before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi.

Ault's guilty plea marks a significant blow to the fentanyl distribution operation in West Virginia. As the state continues to grapple with the opioid epidemic, cases like Ault's serve as a reminder of the severity of the issue.
