Kendahl Clown, Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor, South Dakota 2014

A 21-year-old Eagle Butte man was sentenced for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor, a crime that has shocked the community.

Kendahl Clown, 21, was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor, a serious crime that has caused harm to the victim and their family.

The crime occurred during the summer of 2013 when Clown, then 20 years old, and the victim, 15, engaged in a sexual act. This was a heinous act that took advantage of a minor.

Kendahl Clown was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 11, 2014, and pled guilty on May 12, 2014. He was sentenced on August 28, 2014, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.

The sentence handed down was 18 months in custody, followed by 5 years of supervised release. Clown was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Kendahl Clown was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence. This is a stark reminder that such crimes will not be tolerated and will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division investigated this case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuting the case.
