Kevin A. Perry, Fentanyl Distribution, Money Laundering, Massachusetts 2023
In a shocking turn of events, Kevin A. Perry, a 43-year-old business owner from Worcester, Massachusetts, has been arrested and charged with fentanyl distribution and money laundering.
According to the indictment, Perry used the proceeds of his illicit activities to purchase and renovate nine properties in Worcester County, totaling over $1 million. The indictment also alleges that Perry used over $150,000 in cash to make structured payments on real estate loans and finance his wedding in August 2015.
As part of his alleged money laundering scheme, Perry allegedly purchased more than 230 money orders from the United States Postal Service and Western Union, which he used to make cash payments on real estate loans. The indictment further alleges that Perry made a false statement on a loan application, claiming he had no assets to forfeit to the government.
Perry's alleged crimes are not new to law enforcement. In January 2005, he was convicted in federal court of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute MDMA, commonly referred to as Ecstasy. Following his release from prison in 2008, Perry allegedly returned to his illicit activities, manufacturing and distributing anabolic steroids, cocaine, and fentanyl.
The charges against Perry are serious, with the indictment alleging nine counts of money laundering, three counts of aggravated cash structuring, one count of making a false statement on a loan application, and one count of distribution of fentanyl. If convicted, Perry faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the money laundering charges, 10 years for the aggravated cash structuring charges, 30 years for making a false statement on a loan application, and a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years for the distribution of fentanyl.
Perry was held pending a detention hearing following his arraignment before U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge David H. Hennessy.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg A. Friedholm of the Worcester Branch Office.
The defendant, Kevin A. Perry, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
