Fentanyl Trafficking Plagues Utah
Two Honduran nationals, Kevin Arrazola-Canaca and Eddy Otel Arrazola-Canaca, have been charged with fentanyl trafficking in Utah. The duo was found to be in possession of approximately 7,500 fentanyl pills, which were seized by law enforcement.
According to court documents, the traffic stop occurred on July 15, 2026. Eddy Otel Arrazola-Canaca, 34, was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. A search warrant was executed, and detectives found approximately 295 grams of fentanyl pills hidden within the dashboard of the car. The same day, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence, where they found Kevin Arrazola-Canaca, 26, in possession of approximately 455 grams of fentanyl pills and $17,503 in cash.
In total, Eddy Arrazola-Canaca possessed approximately 2,950 fentanyl pills, while Kevin Arrazola-Canaca possessed approximately 4,550 fentanyl pills. Both were arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. Their initial appearance on the indictment is scheduled for July 23, 2026, at 2:15 p.m. in courtroom 7.4 before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the Orrin G. Hatch United States Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City.
As part of the Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative, the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force (UCMC), and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are working together to combat the invasion of illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). Significant assistance was provided by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Peter Reichman for the District of Utah. United States Attorney Melissa Holyoak of the District of Utah made the announcement.
An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
