Grimy Times Exclusive: Brockton Resident Pleads Guilty to Major Drug Trafficking Operation

BOSTON – In a major blow to the city's underworld, Kevin Cardoso, a 26-year-old resident of Brockton, Massachusetts, has agreed to plead guilty to gun and drug offenses related to a wholesale drug-trafficking operation.

According to court documents, Cardoso oversaw a drug-trafficking organization (DTO) that distributed large quantities of controlled substances, including cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine, in and around the Brockton area.

Cardoso pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, one count of possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine, over 400 grams of fentanyl, and over 500 grams of methamphetamine, and one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine, over 400 grams of fentanyl, and over 500 grams of methamphetamine.

The Court deferred acceptance of the proposed plea agreement until sentencing, which U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns has scheduled for June 1, 2023.

During an investigation, law enforcement recovered a vast haul of evidence, including at least 2,000 grams of cocaine, at least 3,000 grams of fentanyl, at least 5,000 grams of methamphetamine, drug packaging materials, and a significant amount of cash. Additionally, a firearm, ammunition, and multiple cellphones were seized from Cardoso's apartment.

The charges against Cardoso carry severe penalties, including up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 for the firearm charge. The drug charges carry sentences of at least 10 years up to life in prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $10 million.

United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins, Joseph Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, Colonel Christopher Mason, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, Brockton Police Chief Brenda Perez, Bridgewater Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte, East Bridgewater Police Chief Paul O'Brien, and Westport Police Chief Keith A. Pelletier, all praised the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and arrest of Cardoso.

With this guilty plea, Cardoso's involvement in the massive drug trafficking operation is brought to a close, and the community can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served.
