Kevin Laday, Gun Control Act Violations, Louisiana 2025

NEW ORLEANS - A convicted felon has been sentenced to prison for violating federal gun laws in Orleans Parish. Kevin Laday, 34, of New Orleans, was sentenced to 70 months of imprisonment on January 15, 2025, by United States District Judge Sarah S. Vance.

Laday pleaded guilty to being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). He was also ordered to pay a $100 mandatory special assessment fee and serve three years of supervised release.

The case is part of 'Operation Big Easy,' a joint effort by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to identify and apprehend individuals involved in trafficking firearms within the City of New Orleans. Agents conducted an undercover purchase of firearms from Laday between August 30, 2023, and October 26, 2023.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement and community organizations to foster trust and legitimacy, support community-based initiatives, and set focused enforcement priorities.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
