Keyshawn Trey Sandcrane, Assault, Montana 2018

A Lame Deer man has been sentenced to 68 months in prison for stabbing two women on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana. Keyshawn Trey Sandcrane, 23, pleaded guilty in March to assault resulting in serious bodily injury and to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a dating partner.

The assault occurred on November 12, 2018 in a Lame Deer residence. According to court records, the victims were assaulted by Sandcrane, who has a history of substance abuse, including methamphetamine, marijuana, and alcohol.

The first victim, Sandcrane's girlfriend, was in another room when she heard the second victim yell, 'He's trying to stab me.' The first victim then went into the kitchen area and saw Sandcrane throw the second victim into the washer and dryer area. Sandcrane hit the first victim and slashed her face with a knife. Sandcrane also stabbed the second victim three times in the leg and arm. Both victims were treated for their injuries.

U.S. District Judge Susan Watters presided over the sentencing hearing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryan Dake prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the FBI.

Sandcrane will serve 68 months in prison and three years of supervised release. The case highlights the severity of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
