Former City of Jackson Employee Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud

Keyshia Sanders, a 47-year-old former Constituent Service Manager for the City of Jackson, has pleaded guilty to engaging in a wire fraud scheme that resulted in the loss of approximately $54,000 in grant money.

According to court documents, Sanders used fraudulent invoices to induce the disbursement of grant funds for her own benefit. The grant was intended to provide project support in the City of Jackson to invest in artists, artist collectives, and small arts organizations of color.

Keyshia Sanders' scheme involved the use of wire communications to defraud the grant's fiscal agent, causing the disbursement of funds in clear contradiction to the terms of the grant and her role as a City of Jackson employee.

Sanders is scheduled to be sentenced on April 20, 2023, in Jackson, Mississippi. She faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1343.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi State Auditor's Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew W. Eichner is prosecuting the case.
