Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking turn of events, Khalil Ahmad, a 51-year-old restaurant owner from Hanover, Maryland, pleaded guilty to stalking his estranged wife. The charges against Ahmad stem from a series of disturbing incidents that took place in 2018.
According to court documents, Ahmad and his wife were married in July 2015, but their relationship turned tumultuous in April 2018 when his wife informed him that she wanted a divorce. Ahmad, however, refused to accept the end of their marriage and began to harass his wife, threatening to kill her and her family.
On April 24, 2018, Ahmad drove to his wife's residence, poured gasoline over his body, and threatened to light himself on fire if she didn't take him back. The next day, his wife obtained a temporary protective order against him, which he violated by contacting her multiple times.
As the situation escalated, Ahmad solicited an individual to have his wife killed, but ultimately decided to have her framed as a terrorist instead. He provided the individual with a total of $5,000 in cash as a down payment for the plan.
Fortunately, the individual reported Ahmad's plan to law enforcement, and his subsequent calls and meetings with Ahmad were recorded. Ahmad was arrested and charged with stalking his estranged wife.
The guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Robert K. Hur; Special Agent in Charge Gordon B. Johnson of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office; and Anne Arundel County Police Chief Tim Altomare.
