Local Woman Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison for Assault
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In a disturbing case of violence, 37-year-old Kirsten Sandy, an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Zuni living in Wisconsin, pleaded guilty to one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in Indian Country.
According to the plea agreement, Sandy committed the offense on Zuni Pueblo in McKinley County, New Mexico on May 1, 2014. She stabbed the victim in the chest, causing a laceration to the victim's heart that required surgery. The victim would have died if they had not received medical treatment.
The Pueblo of Zuni Police Department investigated this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicholas Marshall and Allison Jaros are prosecuting the case.
Sandy is currently out of custody, awaiting sentencing on May 14, 2020. She faces up to 10 years in prison for her crime.
