Kyle Richard Lantz, II, Unlawful Possession of a Machinegun, West Virginia 2019

A Philippi man is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 after admitting to a firearms charge in federal court.

Kyle Richard Lantz, II, 38, pleaded guilty today to one count of 'Unlawful Possession of a Machinegun' in the Northern District of West Virginia.

Lantz admitted to having a machinegun in Barbour County on August 2019.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Lantz is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi at a later date.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives investigated the case.

Lantz's admission to the charge marks the latest development in a case that has drawn attention to the issue of firearms possession in West Virginia.

A sentencing date has not been set for Lantz, who remains a defendant in the case until the final disposition is made.
