Greenbelt, MD - 420 Year Sentence for Child Abuse

A Montgomery County man has been sentenced to 420 years in federal prison for producing child pornography, documents obtained by Grimy Times reveal. Kyle Stephen Thompson, 33, of Burtonsville, Maryland, was convicted of 18 counts of production of child pornography after a three-day trial in 2018.

Thompson was found guilty of producing videos documenting his sexual abuse of three young girls, aged 2 to 4, between May 9, 2015, and January 28, 2017. The abuse was uncovered when law enforcement executed a search warrant at Thompson's residence on March 17, 2017, and recovered a Secure Digital (SD) memory card hidden in the laundry room.

A preliminary on-scene forensic preview of the SD card revealed a video depicting child pornography, and subsequent forensic analysis revealed 18 videos of Thompson sexually abusing the three young girls. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur commended the FBI, Montgomery County Police Department, and Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office for their work in the investigation. Mr. Hur thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kristi N. O'Malley, Joseph Baldwin, and Kelly O. Hayes, who prosecuted the federal case.

Thompson's sentence of 420 years in federal prison is concurrent to the state sentence to be imposed, and he will serve a lifetime of supervised release. The case is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in protecting children from predators.
