A 55-year-old Leominster man has been caught with his hand in the cookie jar, literally. Joe Scott Jr. used his position as Treasurer of the International Union of Electrical Workers, Communication Workers of America, Local 81154 to embezzle $49,559 from the labor union chapter based in Gardner, Mass.
The victims are union members from various employers in Massachusetts who trusted Scott to handle their funds. But instead, he spent the cash on personal expenses like home internet, cell phone services, and a vacation.
Scott pleaded guilty in January 2026 and was sentenced to 42 months of probation, with six months of home confinement. He’ll also have to pay back the stolen cash.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan O’Shea led the case against Scott, with support from the U.S. Department of Labor.
