Felon Sentenced to 9 Years for Gun Crime in California
A San Francisco man has been sentenced to nearly nine years in prison for illegally possessing a loaded handgun, announced United States Attorney Ismail J. Ramsey; Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge Robert K. Tripp; and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Cicolani.
Lamar Nolan Ryan, 42, of San Francisco, was convicted at a bench trial in December 2023 on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1).
The sentence was handed down by the Hon. William H. Orrick, Senior United States District Judge.
Ryan was arrested in South San Francisco on July 1, 2023, after law enforcement officers detained him in connection with a report that he had taken a woman there and was attempting to coerce her to perform commercial sex work.
According to the government’s sentencing memorandum, Ryan met the woman at a San Francisco motel and paid her $500 for sex. However, he took the money back and tried to convince the woman to perform commercial sex acts under his management in exchange for a 30 percent cut of her profits.
As part of the investigation, South San Francisco police officers found Ryan and the woman in a car parked outside a laundromat.
In addition to sentencing Ryan to 105 months in prison, Judge Orrick ordered the defendant to serve three years of supervised release to begin after his prison term is completed.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jared Buszin and Alexandra Shepard are prosecuting the case with assistance from Maribel Gallegos.
The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the FBI and ATF.
