Lamar Tindall, Serial Bank Robbery, Pennsylvania 2019

Published September 1, 2020

In a shocking turn of events, a serial bank robber from Philadelphia has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a string of brazen heists. Lamar Tindall, 45, of Philadelphia, PA, was handed down the sentence by United States District Court Judge Joshua D. Wolson for robbing three separate BB&T Banks over a period of ten days in May 2019.

The robberies, which took place on May 14, 2019, in Philadelphia, May 17, 2019, in Feasterville, and May 23, 2019, in King of Prussia, saw Tindall hand threatening notes to tellers in order to receive money. The notes, which included one that read, “all 50’s and 100’s or ill shoot,” sparked fear in the bank employees. Tindall made off with a total of $3,650 as a result of these robberies.

Tindall was later arrested by Philadelphia Police Department officers, who also found a confession in his words. The confession led to the recovery of the stolen cash.

Tindall has a long history of crime, with convictions for drug distribution offenses in 1999 and 2010, as well as a conviction for robbery of property of the United States in 2002. This history led the Court to find Tindall to be a “Career Offender” under the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.

U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain was quick to comment on the case, stating, “Robbing any type of business – whether it’s a bank, a corner store, or anything in between – is a serious federal offense that can carry stiff penalties, as Tindall can now attest.” McSwain also highlighted the risks of committing a violent crime in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, saying, “You can learn more about this campaign on our District website.”

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Abington Township Police Department, the Conshohocken Police Department, the Lower Southampton Township Police Department, the Philadelphia Police Department, and the Upper Merion Township Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Lauren R. Baer and Kevin Jayne.

Michael J. Driscoll, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division, also weighed in on the case, saying, “Serial bank robbers like Lamar Tindall terrorize our communities.” Driscoll thanked law enforcement partners for their assistance in bringing Tindall to justice and making the community safer.

Tindall was sentenced to 12 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $2,955 in restitution. He had pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery in January 2020. The robberies took place over a period of ten days in May 2019, with Tindall making off with a total of $3,650.
