Pittsburgh Man Charged with Illegal Gun Possession

A 45-year-old man from Braddock, Pennsylvania, has been accused of violating federal firearms laws. Larnell Jones, formerly of Braddock, is facing a single count of illegal gun possession.

According to the indictment, Jones was in possession of a firearm on July 10, 2019, despite being a convicted felon. Federal law prohibits felons from possessing firearms.

The indictment was brought by Assistant United States Attorney Yvonne M. Saadi on behalf of the government. The Munhall and Swissvale Police Departments, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs.

An indictment is an accusation, and Jones is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The law provides for a maximum of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the offenses and Jones' prior criminal history.

This case highlights the importance of enforcing federal firearms laws and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
