Larry Pourier, Manslaughter, South Dakota 2020

A Porcupine man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a deadly attack.

Larry Pourier, 52, was convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter for repeatedly striking another man in the head with a pipe-like object, causing his death in January 2020 near Porcupine.

The victim's name was not released. The assault led to Pourier's conviction and subsequent sentencing.

In sentence handed down on September 4, 2020, Pourier was ordered to serve 10 years in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.

He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Pourier was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.

The investigation into the crime was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
