Laryan Reed, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Louisiana 2023

A 22-year-old man has been charged with a weapons violation in Louisiana.

Laryan Reed, 22, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 3, 2023, for being a felon in possession of a firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8).

The indictment alleges that Reed committed this crime on February 17, 2023. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 15 years of imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, a period of up to 3 years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. On May 26, 2021, the federal government launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on core principles such as fostering trust and legitimacy in communities and setting focused enforcement priorities.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Inga Petrovich of the Violent Crime Unit.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department in this investigation.

The indictment is merely a charge, and the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The case is ongoing.
