Lashaun Deon Williams, Crack Cocaine Trafficking, Alabama 2013
A notorious Mobile, Alabama, crack cocaine dealer was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison following a months-long investigation by local law enforcement.
Lashaun Deon Williams, 35, pleaded guilty to two charges: conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine and using, carrying and possessing a firearm in furtherance of and in connection with a drug trafficking felony.
The 15-year prison sentence, handed down by United States District Court Judge Callie V. S. Granade on January 2013, marked the culmination of a lengthy probe involving the Mobile Police Department, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Baldwin County Drug Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Prosecutor Gloria Bedwell, representing the United States Attorney’s Office in Mobile, requested a sentence of 211 months, the lower end of the advisory guidelines. However, Judge Granade chose to impose a sentence of 15 years, which represents the statutory minimum sentence available.
The conviction was the result of a coordinated effort to dismantle a significant crack cocaine trafficking operation in Mobile. As part of the sentence, Williams will serve a five-year term of supervised release following his prison term and will be required to pay a special mandatory assessment of $200.
Williams will also undergo drug testing and treatment as conditions of his imprisonment and supervision. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and the severe penalties that await those who engage in this illicit activity.
