Lateef Fisher, Heroin Delivery Causing Death, West Virginia 2016

Published September 26, 2016

A 27-year-old male victim lost his life in June 2014 after consuming heroin sold by Lateef Fisher, a 38-year-old man from Hagerstown, Maryland.

Fisher was sentenced in federal court in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to 30 years in prison for his role in delivering the fatal dose of heroin.

The conviction was the result of a two-day trial in May 2016, during which evidence was presented showing that Fisher conspired with another individual to sell heroin in Berkeley County, West Virginia.

'Whenever the delivery of heroin or other drugs leads to the death of another, the U.S. Attorney's Office will seek a severe punishment for the offender,' said U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, in a statement.

Fisher's sentencing is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of the heroin trade in West Virginia.

'I am hopeful that this approach will deter out of town drug dealers like Mr. Fisher from traveling to West Virginia to profit from the sale of these deadly substances,' Ihlenfeld added.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul T. Camilletti and Anna Z. Krasinski, and investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative.

Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the trial.
