Published July 21, 2020

Grimy Times has learned that a federal indictment has been filed against Lee Anthony Fisher, 46, of Port Arthur, Texas, for allegedly providing a Schedule I controlled substance to Curtis Brent Carico, a federal inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sandstone, Minnesota.

According to the indictment, on January 24, 2020, Fisher attempted to provide the controlled substance to Carico. If convicted, both Fisher and Carico face a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison.

The charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the United States Postal Inspection Service. Assistant United States Attorney Chelsea A. Walcker is prosecuting the case.

The charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Fisher made his initial appearance today before Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn in U.S. District Court in Beaumont, Texas, while Carico made his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Kate M. Menendez in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This case is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle to maintain order within our nation's prisons. As Grimy Times continues to investigate this story, we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
