Leslie Earle Alverson, Possession of Child Pornography, South Carolina 2023

Published March 30, 2018

A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in South Carolina, where a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing large quantities of child pornography.

Leslie Earle Alverson, a 50-year-old resident of Greer, South Carolina, was recently sentenced in federal court in Greenville, South Carolina, for Possession of Child Pornography involving Prepubescent Minors, a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2252A(a)(5)(B).

According to court records, Alverson spent substantial hours on a child pornography website between January 23, 2015 and February 24, 2015. Law enforcement agents traced the activity to internet protocol (IP) addresses associated with Alverson and executed a search warrant at his residence.

During the search, agents seized over 13,000 images of child pornography, including adults engaged in sexual acts with prepubescent minors and sadistic and masochistic conduct. Alverson admitted to possessing the child pornography.

U.S. District Judge Bruce Howe Hendricks sentenced Alverson to 120 months (10 years) and supervised release for life.

The case was investigated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney D. Josev Brewer of the Greenville office prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Alverson's sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the importance of continued efforts to combat this epidemic.

In related news, the Federal Bureau of Investigation urges citizens to report any suspected cases of child exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
