Leticia Washburn, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, New Mexico 2022

A Sanostee woman is facing multiple federal charges after allegedly using a rifle to seriously injure one individual and threaten another during an August 2022 incident in New Mexico.

According to court documents, on August 20, 2022, Leticia Washburn, 41, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, assaulted two individuals with a rifle, causing serious bodily injury to one of them.

Washburn is charged with two counts each of assault with a dangerous weapon and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. She will remain in custody pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled.

If convicted, Washburn faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison.

The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Marshall.

The charges against Washburn are merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Washburn will remain in custody pending trial. The exact date of her trial has not been scheduled.
