Levi Farren Miller, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Iowa 2020

A man from Waterloo, Iowa, received a seven-year prison sentence for possessing a sawed-off shotgun after multiple felony convictions.

Levi Farren Miller, 30, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison on January 7, 2020 for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Evidence presented during the sentencing hearing showed that Miller displayed a sawed-off shotgun during a heated disagreement with a neighbor over the neighbor moving Miller’s items off the neighbor’s porch.

The confrontation also involved the use of racially charged language. Miller, a white male, had previously been convicted of multiple felonies, including burglary twice, theft twice, attempted burglary, and conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Miller was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime.

This case is also part of Project Guardian, a federal initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws.

Miller is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily K. Nydle and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waterloo Police Department.
