Levi Hamilton, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, Iowa 2021
A Sioux City man has been sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.
Levi Hamilton, 40, of Sioux City, received the prison term after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Hamilton and another individual received 2.7 pounds of methamphetamine via mail on August 25-27, 2020, which they intended to redistribute around the Sioux City area.
Hamilton's prior convictions include serious assault on a peace officer, three theft convictions, two eluding a peace officer convictions, terrorism, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, three eluding convictions, assault on a peace officer, domestic abuse, and serious assault. He has over 20 convictions in his extensive criminal history.
Hamilton was sentenced to 262 months' imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. He will also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Hamilton is being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ron Timmons and investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, consisting of the DEA, the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, the Sioux City Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
