Local Man Sentenced to 44 Years in Federal Prison for Child Sex Exploitation Crimes

Syracuse, New York - In a disturbing case of child sex exploitation, 28-year-old Logan Decker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was sentenced to serve 528 months (44 years) in federal prison.

Decker, a former resident of Jefferson County, New York, pled guilty to all counts of a seven-count indictment in December 2019, admitting to conspiring with his wife, Amber Decker, to sexually exploit a two-year-old child.

The abuse, which occurred in July and August 2018, involved Decker demanding that his wife sexually abuse the child and upload video files of the abuse to a cloud storage account for him to view.

Recovered text messages revealed that Decker was planning a trip to New York and that he and his wife discussed the continued abuse of the two-year-old, as well as the abuse of two other children, once Decker arrived.

However, before that trip could happen, both Decker and his wife were arrested after a family member saw some disturbing texts on Amber Decker’s phone and called the police.

United States District Judge David N. Hurd also imposed a term of supervised release of 25 years to follow Decker’s term of incarceration, at which time he will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Amber Decker, Decker’s wife, pled guilty to the same offenses and was sentenced in August to serve 22 years in federal prison for her role in the offenses.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Syracuse Resident Agency, the New York State Police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sioux Falls, South Dakota Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa M. Fletcher, Project Safe Childhood Coordinator for the Northern District of New York.

Launched in May 2006, Project Safe Childhood is a federal initiative designed to marshal federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

Logan Decker’s exact criminal charges include conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a minor, and production and distribution of child pornography.

Decker will serve his 44-year sentence in federal prison, with a 25-year term of supervised release to follow.

The case against Decker and his wife highlights the severity of child sex exploitation crimes and the importance of community vigilance in reporting such abuses.
