Corning Man Sentenced to Prison for Receipt of Child Pornography

Lonnie Ray Schafroth, a 54-year-old resident of Corning, Iowa, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in a child pornography case. On February 19, 2021, he was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey to 65 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release.

The case against Schafroth began when Microsoft provided a cyber-tip to law enforcement, which led to a search warrant being served on his residence in Corning. During the search, a computer containing over 3,000 images of child pornography was seized. Many of the images depicted children under the age of 12.

The images were obtained by Schafroth through searches conducted on the Internet between July of 2017 and June 12, 2019. The investigation into Schafroth's activities was led by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation - Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Offices for the Southern District of Iowa. Acting United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal announced the sentencing.

Schafroth is accused of receiving child pornography, a serious crime that can have severe consequences. Child pornography is a form of child exploitation and is a federal crime. The production, distribution, and possession of child pornography are all punishable under federal law.
