Memphis Man Convicted of Bank Robbery and Carjacking

A federal jury in Memphis, Tennessee, has convicted Lorenzo Davis, 29, of bank robbery and carjacking. According to the evidence presented in court, on July 26, 2018, Davis and two other males robbed a Memphis man at gunpoint, forcing him to walk two miles to an ATM machine to withdraw his last $40.

The next day, Davis committed a carjacking by shooting a Memphis man in the neck and taking his Toyota Solara. On June 20, 2019, a federal jury convicted Davis of bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during a bank robbery, carjacking, and being a felon in possession of a firearm during both incidents.

U.S. Attorney D. Michael Dunavant announced the guilty verdict, stating that Davis is a 'violent gun offender' who 'threatens lives and public safety in Memphis.' The jury's verdict demonstrates that the community is 'Fed Up with repeat offenders who have dedicated their lives to lawlessness and violence.'

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Memphis Police Department Violent Crimes Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elizabeth Rogers and Neal Oldham are prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

Sentencing for Davis is set for October 2, 2019, before U.S. District Court Judge Mark Norris. The conviction highlights the aggressive approach taken by law enforcement to remove violent offenders from the streets of Memphis.
