Published September 8, 2016

A Texas woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for her role in a major heroin trafficking operation in Louisiana.

LORI BROADWAY, 34, of Galveston, Texas, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin. U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk handed down the sentence, which will be followed by 5 years of supervised release.

According to court documents, on January 22, 2016, officers conducting narcotics interdiction at the AMTRAK station in New Orleans identified BROADWAY, a train passenger arriving from Houston, Texas, as a possible drug trafficker. After officers obtained consent to search BROADWAY's suitcases, they located and seized approximately six kilograms of heroin.

BROADWAY's arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Louisiana State Police. U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the agencies involved in the case, citing their dedication to keeping the community safe.

The heroin seized in the case had a street value of millions of dollars, and its distribution would have had devastating consequences for the people of Louisiana. BROADWAY's sentence is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to disrupt and dismantle heroin trafficking operations.

Assistant United States Attorney Andre' Jones was in charge of the prosecution, working tirelessly to ensure that BROADWAY faced justice for her crimes.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight against heroin trafficking in our community, and the importance of continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies to prevent such crimes from occurring.
