Loyse Dozier, Carjacking & Murder, Missouri 2022
A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in two carjackings that resulted in the death of one woman and the shooting of another.
Loyse Dozier, 21, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge John A. Ross on Thursday for his role in the carjackings, which occurred on July 10, 2022, and August 1, 2022, in St. Louis and St. Louis County.
The first carjacking occurred on July 10, 2022, when Dozier fatally shot Laruth Jones, 38, after she confronted him with her own pistol while he was attempting to steal her Mercedes CLA 250. Dozier, who was wearing a full-face mask, got into Jones' car and stole her gun before setting the vehicle on fire in an alley in St. Louis.
Just weeks later, on August 1, 2022, Dozier attempted to steal another woman's car from a Walgreens parking lot in St. Louis. The woman, who has not been named, handed over her keys to Dozier after he ordered her out of the vehicle. Dozier then shot her twice before fleeing the scene with her Kia Optima.
Dozier was arrested nine days later after St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers spotted him at a gas station in St. Louis. He was found to be in possession of a bag containing 5.76 grams of fentanyl and 25 plastic baggies of cocaine base.
Dozier pleaded guilty in December to four felonies, including carjacking resulting in death, attempted carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
The surviving carjacking victim and Laruth Jones' sister spoke at Thursday's sentencing hearing, describing the impact of Dozier's crimes.
Dozier is a convicted felon and is barred from possessing a firearm. He is being held at the Federal Correctional Institution in Duluth, Minnesota.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the St. Louis County Police Department, and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Martin prosecuting the case.
