Published April 8, 2015

In a devastating case of child exploitation, Luis Alberto Morales-Badillo, a 42-year-old resident of Puerto Rico, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for production of child pornography.

The investigation, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), revealed that Morales-Badillo had been producing and possessing child pornography for over a decade, from 1999 to 2010.

Morales-Badillo's pattern of abuse was shocking in its scope and duration.

The sentencing was welcomed by U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez, who stated, 'Justice was done today. This sentence should serve to reassure the public that we are paying close attention to the well-being of our children, and that we will spare no expense to take child predators off the streets.'

The case highlights the importance of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, which aims to prevent the abuse and exploitation of children through the use of digital cameras, computers, and other digital and electronic media.
