Luis Alfred Romero, Distributing Child Sexual Abuse Images, South Carolina 2024
A Nebraska man has been sentenced to over nine years in federal prison for distributing child sexual abuse material in South Carolina.
Luis Alfred Romero, 37, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 110 months imprisonment for distributing child pornography, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of South Carolina.
The investigation began in May 2024 when the mother of a 13-year-old girl reported to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office that she had found concerning messages from Romero on her daughter’s Discord account.
Romero had cultivated a relationship with the child online and had solicited explicit images and videos from her. He also urged the victim to engage in sexual relationships with other minors and adults.
With the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations, Romero was apprehended and his devices were searched, revealing hundreds of images of child sexual abuse material.
Romero was ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to help cover the victim’s mental health counseling expenses and must register as a sex offender for life.
“We urge parents and caregivers to talk to their children and be vigilant about the dangers of online communications, especially chatting with strangers,” said U.S. Attorney Bryan Stirling.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office with Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Watkins prosecuting the case.
