Honduran National Pleads Guilty to Illegal Re-Entry in Louisiana

A Honduran national has admitted to breaking the law and re-entering the United States without permission.

Luis Alonso Munoz-Madrid, a 35-year-old man, pleaded guilty in court to being in the country illegally.

According to court documents, Munoz-Madrid was found in the Eastern District of Louisiana on August 29, 2017, after having been previously deported from the United States on December 14, 2011.

Munoz-Madrid faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years and a fine of $250,000, or the greater of twice the gross gain to the defendant, one year of supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter.

Munoz-Madrid's sentencing will be held before the Honorable Nannette Jolivette Brown on November 30, 2017.

The case is a reminder that illegal re-entry into the United States is a serious crime, and those who commit it can face significant consequences.
