Federal Judge Hands Down 110-Year Sentence to Man for Child Sexual Abuse in Lehigh Acres

Fort Myers, Florida – In a harsh verdict, U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell has sentenced Luis Daniel Fuentes (47, Lehigh Acres) to 110 years in federal prison for producing and possessing videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of children.

Fuentes entered a guilty plea on February 8, 2024. The defendant's crimes took place between August 28 and September 27, 2020, when he used three minor victims to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Fuentes produced videos of the minors being sexually abused using his cellphone and stored the child sexual abuse images and videos on seven SD cards.

Law enforcement discovered the defendant's cellphone and SD cards, which contained 24 videos and over 5,000 images and 17 videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. Fuentes downloaded these images and videos from the internet and kept them for his collection.

Investigations were conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fort Myers Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which includes the Lee County Sheriff’s Office that assisted in this investigation. Prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Yolande G. Viacava.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children.
