Luis Humberto Arias Lara, Heroin Distribution, Massachusetts 2017
A 41-year-old Dominican national, Luis Humberto Arias Lara, was sentenced to five months in prison for distributing heroin in the city of Waltham, Massachusetts.
Arias Lara was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin in July 2017, after he pleaded guilty to the crimes.
On two separate occasions, in September 2016 and January 2017, Arias Lara distributed heroin to an undercover officer in Waltham.
U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs handed down the sentence, which also includes three years of supervised release and deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Miranda Hooker and Susan Winkler of U.S. Attorney William D. Weinreb's Narcotics and Money Laundering Unit prosecuted the case.
Valuable assistance was provided by the Suburban Middlesex County Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division.
Arias Lara will begin serving his sentence immediately.
