Lynn Barbara Van Laar, False Statement, South Dakota 2013

Two South Dakotans have been brought to justice for making false statements to a federal agent. In a shocking case of deception, Lynn Barbara Van Laar, a 65-year-old resident of Worthing, South Dakota, and Randall Jay Jurgens, a 54-year-old resident of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, were sentenced for their crimes.

According to court documents, Van Laar and Jurgens made false statements to a federal agent during an investigation into a federal crime. The indictment was handed down by a federal grand jury on June 4, 2013.

Van Laar, 65, pleaded guilty on September 9, 2013, while Jurgens, 54, pleaded guilty on September 10, 2013. Both defendants were subsequently sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on December 12, 2013.

Van Laar was sentenced to time served, while Jurgens was sentenced to one year of probation. The fine for Van Laar was $250.
