Marcia Dawn Lowery, Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, Florida 2014

In a shocking case of deceit, 41-year-old Marcia Dawn Lowery of Parker, Florida, was sentenced to 4.5 months in federal prison for impersonating a federal law enforcement officer. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Richard Smoak.

Lowery's scheme unfolded between September and October 2014, when she resided at the Smuggler's Cove residential complex in Bay County. Donning a t-shirt with the word 'POLICE' emblazoned on it, Lowery posed as a Deputy United States Marshal, striking fear into the hearts of her neighbors.

While masquerading as a law enforcement officer, Lowery made a series of outlandish claims to her fellow residents. She told one resident that she would arrest their children for misbehavior and send them to juvenile detention. Another resident was convinced that Lowery was holding them in protective custody due to an outstanding arrest warrant from Tennessee. Perhaps most brazenly, Lowery convinced a resident on probation that she could expunge their conviction if they provided her with the names of their drug sources.

Lowery's antics didn't go unnoticed, however. Her scheme ultimately resulted in a loss of approximately $1,500 to the Smuggler's Cove complex after she obtained extensions on her rent, which went unpaid.

The case was investigated by a coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the United States Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Parker Police Department, and Bay County Sheriff's Office. Assistant United States Attorney Gayle E. Littleton led the prosecution.
