COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Mexican national residing in Lancaster, Alabama, has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for a decades-long identity theft scheme.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Marco Antonio Lopez Gutierrez was sentenced on February 22, 2024 for aggravated identity fraud. The scheme, which lasted for 28 years, involved the unauthorized use of other people's identities.
Gutierrez, an illegal alien, was found guilty of the crime and was sentenced accordingly. The U.S. Department of Justice has been working to bring perpetrators of identity theft to justice.
