Marcus Dejohn Wallace, Possession of Firearm by Felon, Iowa 2025

Cedar Rapids is reeling after a convicted felon was sentenced to over 7 years in federal prison for possessing a gun while on supervised release.

Marcus Dejohn Wallace, 30, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was handed the prison term on December 2, 2025, for his role in a high-speed car chase that ended with him throwing a loaded gun at officers.

According to evidence presented at trial, Wallace led police on a wild goose chase through Cedar Rapids on September 5, 2024, before pulling over in a residential neighborhood and making a run for it. As he fled, he discarded a loaded gun, which landed in the grass after hitting a nearby roof.

Police officers using a K-9 unit were able to apprehend Wallace, and a subsequent search turned up the loaded gun, which was missing a magazine. The missing magazine was found in the path Wallace had taken during his escape.

The gun possession charge was a serious one, as Wallace was already on supervised release at the time due to a prior federal conviction for distribution of heroin resulting in serious bodily injury.

Wallace was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 70 months' imprisonment for the possession of a firearm by a felon charge, plus an additional 18 months for violating the terms of his supervised release. This brings his total prison time to 88 months, or just over 7 years.

Following his release from prison, Wallace will be subject to a 3-year term of supervised release. Unfortunately, there is no parole in the federal system.

Wallace is currently being held in the United States Marshal's custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to serve out his sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Devra T. Hake, Shawn Wehde, and Dan Tvedt, and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country.
